Notes about poem and art:
• “soulschool jigsaw” gave me a bit of a runaround. I drafted and revised and tweaked and rewrote, trying to discover exactly what it was I wanted to say while also adhering to traditional haiku format in this poem about the spiritual paradox of the mind as a barrier to true seeing; the irony of overanalyzing a poem about overanalyzing did not escape me!
• On the final morning of my June vacation, before packing up my art supplies to head home, I brushed freeform swirls and patches of water into each quadrant of a page in my sketchbook, then dropped watercolor into each. Now, weeks later, what I see in one quadrant is The Friend With the Messy Bun.
