Hidden in Everyday Life

sometimes

sometimes
when i set out to paint
or write a poem
or i find myself
in a social interaction
or even just have to pack
for a vacation,
for pete’s sake,
there is no choice
but to push up my sleeves
and grapple
with ALL MANNER
of unexpected THINGS
I DO NOT KNOW
and THEN
come up
with COUNTERMEASURES
for the lack therein.

you know of what i speak.

Notes about poem and art:
• “sometimes” and Drawing from Inner Resources were created at different times, several months apart and some time ago, one sitting in my sketchbook, the other on my computer in a folder named Poem Parking Lot. Today they both came back into my awareness. I like the way the art acts as a counterweight to the poem.

  1. First, glad to see you here……thought if I don’t see something today will check in by email! Guess there many “sometimes” moments.

Yes, life takes over some of our best intentions!

What a great name for your poetry folder, mine is dull poetry-thoughts

That’s what sketchbooks and folders are for!

Love the little drawing, reminds me of slow, meditative drawing. So simple but strong!

    1. You write: <First, glad to see you here……thought if I don’t see something today will check in by email!> Have I been in absentia? I posted on Monday as usual, and you commented. Have I missed something you posted?

I currently have two desktop folders on my laptop: Painting Parking Lot and Poem Parking Lot : )

Little slow drawings such as the one above are indeed meditative—very grounding, calming, and nourishing for me.

Yes…I do know of what you speak! Counter measures for the unexpected is a daily occurrence. Thanks for framing it up in poetic form….and finding the art to balance it all out!

A folder called Poem Parking Lot…..Couldn’t LOVE that more!

Enjoy the peace and quiet of getting back to your daily routine!

    1. LOL, of course you know of what I speak!

My poem parking lot is working well for me. I’ve tried this and that over the past year to find some kind of ‘system’ to hold space for ideas and prompts and starts. It’s a messy endeavor no matter what, but my parking lot has been working well for me in the past couple of months.

Today is day one, after two very full wildly-in-motion weeks of our hosting Famfest26 with endless combinations and permutations of participants. We put Emmy on her plane home yesterday and offset the feeling of vacuum last evening by attending a book talk. This morning, I find myself with a deliciously open, quiet, essence-of-summer July day at my feet.

My habit of early-rising allowed for daily snippets of slow artmaking that kept me sane and grounded during our festivities : )

  3. Poem Parking Lot! OMG love that SO much! And I do know what you mean…where are the DO NOT DISTURB signs for the whole entire world? ha ha!

And “Drawing From Inner Resources” shows a clear path through the quagmire, despite all the competing attention-seeking lines. Whew! xo

    1. Poem Parking Lot! Yup! Grateful to have come up with a system for snagging re-findable poem ideas and prompts. They don’t even need to have a registration number to park in the lot!

YES! Where the heck ARE the DO NOT DISTURB signs for the entire world?

LOVE how you see the clear path through the quagmire despite all the competing attention-seeking lines. PERFECT description.

      THANK YOU xoxo

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
