Notes about poem and art:
• I wrote “listing” on an afternoon when my body was signaling that something in my mind was out of alignment.
Our House had as its reference a photo taken by my daughter-in-law Christine while she and Jay traveled recently in Innsbruck. Christine informed us that street art in Europe can be very good—the photo is actually of a wall, but as I have houses on the brain I say, Make yourself at home!

  1. ….with two cats in the yard… Life used to be so hard. I always loved that song. And I love the painting. There’s such beautiful texture to the house with the colors you’ve used.

It’s funny, isn’t it, that mind/body connection. Hoping you’re feeling a bit more in alignment.

    1. Roseanne, you’ve got me singing along with you, Crosby, Stills, and Nash now! I agree, great song! Thanks for picking up on the textural quality of the painting here.

Thanks, too, for your kind wishes for my alignment. I definitely got the energy flowing again through my chakras, but have probably gone through misalignment and realignment more than once since writing my haiku!

    1. Lola, thanks! I so enjoy having you as a compatriot who practices and ‘gets’ the gift of righting feelings through writing. This very, very, very fine house, which is not even a house!, was great fun to paint and collage. Thanks for loving it and its most fine feline with me!

  3. Yes, I also noticed the “righting” and “writing”! The interconnection and the way one can help the other. Writing and art have a way to ground us and put us in the correct path!

Your house really reminded me how the houses come flush up to the sidewalk. How colorful and textural the walls and windows can be. Love the simplicity! Good morning kitty!

    1. Righting and writing : ) Writing presents so many gift options to me: nourishment, grounding, calmness, enlightenment, exploration, s l o w i n g down, insight, discovery … I’m a big fan!

Carol, love your observations: houses flush up to sidewalk, color and texture of walls and windows, a kitty, and simiplicity. The simplicity was a big draw for wanting to paint this one.

Thank you for stopping by : )

    1. Righting myself with writing is what I do, and it’s often what leads me back home to myself. Not a bad gig!! Thanks for your affirming words, MaryAnn : )

    1. Thank you for your kind wishes, Sheila. My writing didn’t right me immediately but it pointed me in the right direction : )

I found out today that the image I used as my reference was a small part of a wall that’s part of a castle in Innsbruck that a historic landmark! Indeed a very very very fine house, hahaha!

  6. Well, well! A cat in a castle. LOL.

That song is still in my head. My choir teacher was a huge fan, and he always had us sing one of their songs at our performances. Mr. Spoon. Mrs. Spoon was my piano teacher. They lived right around the corner from us. In a very, very, very fine house. :o)

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
