Making My Own Sunshine

sing along with mitch

there comes a synapse
between first light and sunrise
when the ratio of darkness
to illumination is such
that no rabbit’s body
is visible anywhere,
only the cottontail
that becomes
the bouncing ball
for today’s sing-along
  •        •       •      •        •      •       •       •
oh, what a beau-ti-ful mor-nin’ … !

Notes about poem and art:
• Some of my favorite predawn walks are the ones where something catches my attention, inspiration comes within reach if I will but grab it by the tail before it hops away, I grab it, and as I walk I begin to alchemize inspiration into poem. “sing along with mitch” is just such a poem! I am so grateful to be stretching my poetry wings.
Everything’s Comin’ My Way was an exploration into working on unstretched canvas with watercolors, playing with ideas inspired by Brian Andreas, wrestling to use pen on the canvas’s roughness, trying out various elements of color and contrast, and testing my own persistence. I am so grateful to be creating art.

This whole post makes me bounce with delight! The poem is perfect…oh what a beautiful morning indeed! And just when I thought I couldn’t love one of your Make Yourself at Home pieces more…..I love one even more! EVERYTHING about this makes me happy: that sun, those tiny triangle trees and shrubs and those wonky houses! And those subtle background colors are just perfect! I’m bouncing with delight!

    1. MaryAnn, you’re a quick study following that bouncing ball! Thank you for your finely-honed I-see-with-my-little-eye skills. What a gift to have you reflect back the sun, the tiny triangle trees and shrubs, the wonky houses, and the subtle background colors. You brought me right back into the embodied memory of painting this piece—I’m so grateful, and, like you, bouncing in delight!

  3. First the artwork! Love the textural effect of the canvas aand the way the ink bleeds in the the canvas. Also love the way you found just the perfect places for your houses in your neurographic design! What a beautiful day to wander in your sun filled village.

Poem. Love your description of your early morning walks, a place to discover and enjoy. Also enjoyed the happy mood you have that probably made your day!

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
