Travel Tiles #2

pilgrimage

the monks walk for peace
from fort worth texas
to washington dc
where i join
their global

loving kindness
meditation
through the kindness
of livestreaming,
and
find myself
tears streaming—
livestreamed
to the fluid warmth
of muth’s womb,
held fully,
enveloped entirely,
bathed wholly,
infused completely

in every cell of my body
by peace

That’s How It Is Sometimes

Notes about poem and art:
• I could never have foretold the story encapsulated in “pilgrimage.”
That’s How is the second of two travel tiles, as I’ve dubbed these grid scribble designs created while away from home. As is always the case when I paint while away, I return home with not only a physical bit of art but also, very importantly, an embodied souvenir of stillness and focus.

  1. In the midst of conflict, I too pray for peace!

Beautiful studies. I really envy how you can paint on your journeys! I sometimes take some materials but they seem to stay in their place!

    1. Painting is one of my ways of praying.

Thank you for your seeing the beauty in my travel studies.

LOL: yes, taking the action of pulling out the art materials when traveling can be a challenge! These tiles were just the ticket for me on my trip to Virginia b/c materials were minimal, and what I was creating didn’t keep me from being able to be a part of conversations at the same time : )

The pilgrimage of the Monks affected me as well. I was moved by every image and every step. Their journey is making the world feel more hopeful.

And this Travel Tile series has already captured my heart. I just love how your find your way to these art rituals at home and away. You settle in….and end up with a “souvenirs of stillness and focus.”

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
