A Moment When the Day Falls Away

Notes about poem and art:
• “Whidbey” celebrates a world-class musical performance by Antoine Boyer and Yeore Kim as part of DjangoFest NW 2025. Totally knocked our socks off.
A Moment celebrates the meditative joy of playing with scribbles, marks, pens, and watercolors (thank you, professional scribbler Lina Forrester, for the inspo). Each time I sat to work on this piece was a sweet moment when the day fell away.

  1. Joy and happiness come suddenly!

Ripping off the tape! What wonders suddenly appear!

    1. Your comments are right on target, Carol—this post is for sure filled with joy and happiness. The concert we attended was totally and unexpectedly top-drawer, and then I subsequently had great fun with my scribble tiles—I love the freeplay of this kind of exercise and then … ripping off the tape!!

I can hear the music in your doodles. Such a delight!

And you’ve given me a project idea for my weekend trip! I’m going to make sure I have doodling supplies since my thumbs can’t take too much stitching.

Now the music is even more clear! Thanks Dotty!

    1. Love that you can hear the music in my doodles, MaryAnn! And what fun—turnabout is fair play!!—that my post has sparked a project idea for your weekend trip, in the same way that posts of yours sparked ideas for my travels back in September. Woo hoo! I’m grateful that you are careful with your tender thumbs because I sure would miss your creations if those thumbs stopped collaborating with you : )

Oo, thank you for that perception of tribal. Love having my eyes opened by your eyes : )

    1. I SOOO respect practice, repetition, and study and am so grateful when I receive the benefit of someone else’s having committed to and enacted same.

And the scribbles: WAY fun. WAY. I, too, called them wow when I pulled away the tape : )

      THANK YOU, Lola!

  5. Thank you, Dotty! For sharing you joy with us.

What a treat. I have to “visit” every circle, every line, each swirl. Every loop. Fun! Lines and loops and dots – Oh my! 🙂 xoxo

    1. You remain a stellar student, Miss Meg, mocking a hapless substitute teacher and getting Amanda to just about explode trying not to laugh not withstanding.

      1. Let the record show that I was not mocking the substitute teacher. I was mocking the audio cassette audiobook recording of Where the Red Fern Grows, featuring the most boring reader of all recorded time, which was the activity our actual teacher had left for us – and the long-suffering substitute – while she was away undoubtedly having more fun than we were.

        1. I wonder if I could get that recording! I’ve probably already listened to it!

I do thank you for setting the record straight.

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
