dotty seiter: now playing
diary of an artist at work

Collage Botanica Diary, 6

With tinted gesso in place, and tinted gesso applied to a second canvas now waiting in the wings, I moved on to Steps 2 and 3 in creating a rich underlayer on my first Session 2 canvas: Warm Gesso followed by Interesting Linework.

warm gesso, with some neutrals
interesting linework:
quasi-asemic writing/journaling; posca pen leafy stems and flower shapes
additional interesting linework:
ink, marker, paint, pencil, more leafy stems, some cool colors

A whole lotta letting go underway here as I develop a robust underlayer. I’m in the groove. Only the barest hints of the original layer detectable.

Wowser! That IS quite a robust underlayer! Can’t wait to see where this is going!

    1. I’ve committed myself to doing this lesson as demonstrated by Amanda, and she is a queen of layering and being loose and approximate. She’s helping me let go of a measure of my pernicious preciousness with this one, I gotta say!

    1. Roseanne, I never tire of the magic and mystery of visual information and how it intersects with other energies. Thank you for this input about how the colors here resonate in your heart and solar plexus chakras. I’m fascinated and delighted! I also appreciate your notice of the contrast provided by the asemia. All grand!

    1. Very happy to get affirmation for posting this slo-mo unveiling of process. I do appreciate your appreciation of my sharing process : )

I’m thinking that if you were to follow suit, with one of your frequent requisite “million-layer” paintings, we might only see one painting more in a lifetime, if that, hahaha!

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
