Collage Botanica Diary, 2: Rinse and Repeat

I resist the impatience and impulsiveness which would have me moving straight into lesson two in the course I’m taking, and pause instead, as recommended by Amanda, to make a second iteration of lesson one … in which, truth to tell, I think I just redirect my impatience and impulsiveness rather than resist, slapping collage here and there feverishly, tossing torn-paper confetti hit or miss!

How fortuitous to run out of Easifirst Shortening at the height of summer so I can throw a wild profusion of cut flowers into the empty can and let them settle into an impromptu arrangement.

I’m chuckling at the “rinse and repeat” title. I’ve been repeating the same cyanotype print with the button ferns over and over….because I love it so much and I’ve kind of figured it out. I literally “rinse and repeat!” I’m also resisting the urge to move on right now.

You second version of lesson one is a profusion of color and playfulness! I love the flowers and leaves….but I’ll have to tell you I also love the background…both the wallpaper and the table. Those black dots are brilliant!

    1. MaryAnn, happy thumbs up at your appreciation of my rinse-and-repeat post title AND your literal rinse-and-repeat with cyanotypes of button ferns 👍🏻👍🏻.

More happy thumbs up at your nod to the black dots. They hit the spot with me when I bumped into polka dot tissue paper in my studio and put it into play to act as shadow 👍🏻👍🏻. I love using tissue paper of that sort for collage—it’s like magic to have the dots grace what I’m working on while the background translucent white-ish tissue paper ‘disappears’ when it is glued into place (magic I know you also enjoy).

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
