On My Nightstand, On My Easel 4/22/24

On my nightstand:

Like a good secretary to himself,
he has made lists.
—Anita Shreve, Eden Close

That little excerpt from a sentence in Anita Shreve’s novel jumped right off the page at me, sparking an immediate smile and shoulder-lift. All these years I’ve thought of myself as a [mere] list-maker, a characterization that doesn’t have nearly the stature and panache of being A Good Secretary to Myself!

On my easel:

Another piece inspired by the @michelle.nyberg.art class I downloaded recently, this one a second bookmark. I have yet to hit my full stride with botanical printing, but this piece is a sizable step forward.

I need to go back and revisit Michelle Nyberg’s class. Perhaps I will have time after the wedding.

    1. Thanks for delighting in my little bit of wallpaper art—I love the colors, too, and the magic of their having come from two primaries and b & w.

      Did you purchase Michelle’s class?

A big step forward I would say. The botanical bookmark is just delightful. And the shift in thinking that you’re a “good secretary to yourself” is fabulous!

    1. MaryAnn, thanks for cheerleading as I take my steps! Your affirmation lifts me up.

I’m so pleased to be a good secretary to myself! So pleased by the gift of that little nugget of reorientation embedded in Shreve’s novel!

I found myself staring at this piece. I love the title. Some of the tiny green sprigs look 3D. I love your little illuminated nighttime garden! 🙂

    1. Oh, I love your perception of an illuminated nighttime garden, Sheila! Thanks for your appreciation of the title of this piece.

Those tiny green sprigs are botanical prints. This piece has my most robust success with that printing. Love that the sprigs look 3-D!

  5. I love ALL of your bookmarks (still using one of yours all the time!). And I also love the way you transform simple sentences from a novel into a poem.
