dotty seiter: now playing
diary of an artist at work

What?!

Wendell Berry, in his novel Jayber Crow, expands his description of a rickety house with a simile:

the whole thing was slung a little askew
like an old dog half minded to lie down.

I think today’s CutUp is itself a rickety house slung a little askew like an old dog half minded to lie down.

My CutUps are experiments that give primary attention to shape above any other element of visual language. For this CutUp, I cut my shapes, glued them to my substrate … and lost them!

What?!

For right now I am just gonna give this rickety house a hug—embrace it in all its ricketiness and visual confusion. I’m gonna leave it untitled. I’m gonna let it sit as is until an idea comes looking for me, asking to help me reclaim those shapes.

work in progress but dormant

One woman’s rickety house is another’s colorful cottage. You’ll figure it out….you always do!

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
