Sometimes an Idea Takes a Little Time to Gel

OK, I admit it. I thought making a series of CutUps would be quick and easy; I’d churn out two dozen pieces in no time. Turns out, more often than not they’re time-consuming and challenging.

Who’da guessed?

Probably my muse. I suspect the challenges are precisely what my creative energy is meant to be grappling with right now. How do I know? I know because that is what my creative energy is grappling with right now.

A recent Joyful Puttering blogpost by MaryAnn Shupe, creator of things that bring her joy, featured her use of a print she made with a gelli plate and Stabilo Woody watercolor pencils. My response: I want to make one of those!

Pulled out my gelli plate (unused for many years), pulled out my Stabilo Woodies, and pulled a print. Thanks, MaryAnn!

Way fun!

Wanted to use it as the background for a CutUp.

Way challenging.

But, after a day of feeling droopy, discouraged, and draggingly disappointed by difficulties, an idea came close enough for me to reach out and snag it.

Well isn’t that fun! I love your Woody Stabilo print….and your cutups are the perfect addition! I spend a lot of time developing an idea…and sometimes I even find my way. I am enjoying watching you find your way with these little cutups.

And the funny thing is…my blog post tonight includes an idea from YOU! We’re all just sharing and exchanging ideas!

    1. Three cheers for the sharing and exchanging of ideas—I’m loving the abundance! These cutup caught me off guard me a little—I did the work originally in a landscape (horizontal) orientation but then rotated it 90 degrees and fell in love with the surprise of that presentation : )

Thanks for your appreciation of my gelli print and the added cutups, MaryAnn!

in viewing this piece, I am an octopus looking up through sea kelp to see the sun shining on the ripples of the water. Pure magic!

    1. Lola, OMG! When I turned this piece to its current portrait orientation … I looked up through sea kelp to see the sun shining on the ripples of the water!!!

      Talk about pure magic!

What I didn’t realize was that I was an octopus. Huh.
      LOL.

  6. I really like the cut-ups, they’re very powerful, and make a beautiful contrast with the more ‘airy’ background!
