dotty seiter: now playing
diary of an artist at work

… Find Me a Find, Catch Me a Catch!

Those of you who’ve followed me for any length of time are well aware of the fun I have painting bookmarks and then playing matchmaker on behalf of a bookmark and a book cover <https://dottyseiter.blogspot.com/2015/09/transformation.html>.

Most often, the bookmarks I create are found compositions excavated from a larger piece that I’ve brought to my trusty paper cutter, or an impromptu composition that comes into being when I have leftover paint and a scrap of paper I want to give life to.

I have a designated box where I keep my bookmark collection. When I bring a book home from the library the first thing I do is indulge in the distinct and significant pleasure of sorting through the box of bookmarks to make a match with the cover of the book.

Three matches of yore:

I haven’t been following all that long….but maybe long enough to have this lovely habit sound familiar. And I love it!

And NOW I’m going to find the perfect book to match the bookmark you gifted me I guess it will be what you did in reverse….and once I find it…that will be the book I sit with for a while! I’ll find a catch!

    1. It is SO satisfying when the magic of a match takes place! And such fun each time you open your book, pull out your bookmark, and revel in the match all over again!

I’ll expect a photo when the time comes.

    1. I do love making, using, giving away, and selling bookmarks. As you know from projects of your own, the universe in all its unboundaried wonder can come robustly alive on the tiniest of canvases.

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
