Still Poking Around

In early June I painted a 14 x 17″ chaos-layer start and cut it into quadrants with the intention of developing each piece with neurographic linework while on vacation.

The vacation got waylaid by smoke from Canadian wildfires. The painting starts got waylaid when I felt stumped each time I picked one up hoping to give it a go.

A month ago I experimented with one of them, telling myself to make a few marks and see what evolved. What evolved didn’t please my eye at any stage of the process. I eventually cut the piece into bookmarks. They didn’t please my eye either.

Today I decided to poke around a bit more with the dripped-paint trees series I’ve worked on for the past 10 days, this time cutting in half and using chaos-layer quadrant #2 from June.

Pretty soon you’re going to have a whole forest of these dripped trees. It’s amazing what can come out of chaos! I’m enjoying watching you “poke around!”

  2. Wonderful that after all this time waiting in the dark with this specific painting, a spark of creativity lit up, and you got in the flow again!

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
