Getting in My Own Way 2

Eventually I took a tiny baby step away from being frozen in place by adding color to my lines-only black-and-white-only start.

All the while, though, deep down I knew (a) I was still holding tight to loving those lines, staying painstakingly and deliberately within them and (b) the only thing I was ‘letting go’ of was my original intent to paint quickly, loosely, and intuitively.

I did play with scribbles and some splatter but, bottom line (pun acknowledged), I was resisting resisting resisting, and the whole thing was feeling like a mess.

activating plenty of creative tension for myself

What seems like a mess to you….is playful and fun to me. I know you’ll keep layering and likely grow to love this one.

Thank you for sharing your process…even when there is tension.

    1. Thanks for cheering me along and seeing the play and fun here.

The tension is of course a key stop-it-I-love-it element of making art : )

    oy vey!

Still stuck in the land of unable to post. But here is what I tried to post:

“The “feeling like a mess” phase is so hard to tolerate! And also such a measure of faith – knowing it will pass, transform, become.

As with “Joyful Pattering” above, I see playfulness! And the foundation for something tremendous..xo”

    1. Lola! Here you are! Your comment went to my email where I had to approve it–no idea why that would suddenly be the case, but as soon as I click ‘approve,’ your comment appears at the post on my blog. Hooray!

YES to your measure-of-faith observation! I’m so grateful for my cumulative creative adventures; they give me the knowing that the feeling like a mess phase will pass, will transform, will become. Phew!

    1. Though *I* was the one who chose the palette, it ended up expressing itself (I ended up expressing MYself) more joyfully and brightly than I’d anticipated : )

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
