dotty seiter: now playing
diary of an artist at work
  • On My Nightstand, On My Easel*, June 2023

On my nightstand: On the spectrum of obsessively orderlyto sublimely unconcerned with the everyday physical world,my father and sister were—actually, they were nowhere;they were somewhere near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border, still looking for the spectrum itself. My mother and I, meanwhile, were busyorganizing it by color and size.I have a vivid memory of watching my momtry to adjust… Continue reading

  • Itch > Inquiry

Had an itch today. Scratched it. Explored an inquiry in my sketchbook in a taped square. It’s always well worth taping off a space for the exquisite pleasure of pulling away the tape after the fact. Gave myself over to buoyancy, trusting the waters here to hold me afloat. Continue reading

  • Approaching With a Touch of Curiosity and Lightness

Some years ago, I bumped into artist Alice Sheridan online, felt pulled to her art and self-disclosure. So I picked up a pebble, tossed… Continue reading

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
