working title: Who’s Afraid

Notes for poem and art:
• I wonder where “december 2” would have gone without e.e. cummings!
Who’s Afraid is the third face I created rapidly and intuitively during my Jane Davies Zoom class in September. Again, I grabbed a piece of used palette paper given me by friend Lola, glued it onto a piece of card stock, looked for a face in the chaos layer, and highlighted/invented several facial features using a variety of materials.

Thanks for taking us along on your early morning walk with e.e.cummings. And thanks for finding these fabulous faces. This one has a “scary beast” quality about it….so your title seems fitting.

    1. e.e. cummings was having a grand time on that walk! Thanks for coming along!

Ha! Love that you picked up on the “scary beast” quality of this found face! That is exactly what came to my mind also, hence the working title : )

  2. OMG I was literally JUST talking with an editor about using punctuation (or the absence of it) in an out-of-the-box way as an added visual punch to the written word – and then THIS landed in my in-box! WILD! WONDERFUL!

And that palette paper never looked so dang good. OH! xoxo

    1. LOL! Love that my poem landed in your inbox today after your just having had a discussion with an editor about unconventional use of punctuation. Hope you both agreed with e.e. cummings’ elements of style hahaha@%! Meanwhile, to my great disappointment, I can’t figure out any way to use unconventional word spacing at WordPress; very frustrating. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Your second comment about your palette paper got a second laugh out of me. Many thanks, Lola!

  3. e.e. cummings. Oh, yeah! LOVE your morning walk!

Who’s afraid?! Love it. I see two faces in one. You know like those art tests that tell you, supposedly, your personality depending one which image you notice first. Haha.

I see the snout of a Javelina, and a the face of a vey friendly dog. And yes, if it is a Javelina… be afraid. Be very afraid. Haha.

    Rock on, Dotty!

    1. Sheila, thank you for your responses : )

I was first introduced to e.e. cummings in high school by a friend. I am so grateful to have had a close friend who opened the world of poetry—and unconventional poetry—to me!

Love your perception of the two faces in one! I know next to nothing about javelinas and don’t even have a mental image of them in my internal encyclopedia, but YOU do, and you spied one here! Wonderful!!

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
