Wayfinding

In Alexandra Fuller’s memoir, Fi, she writes,

… and everyone has to find their own way
[to survive, thrive, transcend].
C. S. Lewis knew: he knew grief ,
he knew love, and he knew love’s source.
He knew, too, that for some,
the way to Narnia was through a wardrobe,
but to others the wardrobe was just that,
an applewood container of mothballs and old fur coats.
Above all, he knew that it was all sacred:
the lion,
the witch,
the wardrobe,
the mothballs,
the fur coats,
and the mind that could conceive of such things.

All sacred.

  1. OhMyGoodness! I love this whole post. The excerpt from AF’s book was perfect. All sacred; all is sacred. Your abstract is lovely and evocative. It brings to mind birds in flight. 🩵

    1. MMMMMMMMM, thank you!!! I was grateful to you for each and every time you’ve reported resisting the urge to overly define; in my case I had to resist the urge to overdo with another pop of lavender. Or two. I resisted. Woot!

    1. MaryAnn, you are my mentor and compatriot in noticing the sacred ordinary, the applewood container of mothballs and old fur coats. Thank you!

  5. Love this post, Dotty. Love it all.

This abstract that takes me to many different places. My feet are in the wet sand. On the grass. My shoes on the noisy pebbles, walking through the canyon behind our house. Love it! 🙂

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
