I Hear Tell It Is 2024

Were we not just fretting about Y2K a year or two ago?

Blink.

2024.

Really?

As this new year opens, I see that my studio isn’t rising to the challenge of containing my creative clutter so I take advantage of my tutorial schedule’s being on hold until next week and expand the mess into my office in no time flat.

I try my hand at some mini Matisse-like paper cutout designs in my art journal. I tape a page into 9 small windows, grab some sheets of what I think are scrapbook paper that I find in one of my paper-stash boxes, pull out scissors and glue, and off I go.

Y2K! Ha ha! We were thinking about that, it seems, only moments ago. Whoa. Loving this start – Matisse! Huzzah!

  2. Time is so relative, isn’t it?!

Having fun fiddling with the Henri in me. Surprisingly challenging—boy oh boy those little spaces I set up for myself are giving me a great workout with color, composition, contrast, cohesion. Yup: huzzah!

  3. Haha! I was thinking that very thing. I thought of The Prince song, “1999” and remembered when that sounded so far off (released in 1982). Then Y2K came to mind, and the doom and gloom about that.
Blink is the perfect description. For the year, the month, the day. Geesh!
So loving your shapes and colors and playful fun! Enjoy, Dotty!

    1. Sheila, yes! You get what I was talking about, that blink that can land one 20 years down the road in no time!

Playing with shapes and colors here, and setting myself up to create a series of at least 9 minis already feels like a gift. I’m enjoying!

My Story

In 2014, I grab an unexpected opportunity to paint.

To make art.

I get hooked.

In 2015 I start a blog—a diary of my life as an artist.

I post my paintings and their stories. The good, the bad, the ugly.

My compass points: bust through fear, be playful, get messy, trust my gut.
