Kickin’ Back a Bit

Without a conscious decision, I surprise myself by taking the final start for my current series to my paper trimmer and cutting it in half.

Oh!

1st half of final chaos-layer quadrant

I decide not to ‘work’ the first half as much as earlier pieces but rather to give the background a chance to reveal itself as landscape on its own—or not. I am fascinated by the way ‘trees’ created by dripping paint down a page over a chaos layer can set the mind to discerning landscape elements that were not previously perceived as such.

    The drippy trees are fabulous. You’re really on a roll finding these hidden landscapes and it’s been fun to watch them reveal themselves!

      MaryAnn, thanks so much for cheering me along. I’m pleased to be on a roll—I learn so much when I work on a series and/or multiple iterations of a particular inquiry, but I don’t always sustain the forward motion.

      The drippy trees have been a challenge b/c I haven’t yet got the hang of generating the kind of drippy paint needed for the job. I’ve taken to mixing up soupy paint in a bottle with a dropper, and I use the dropper to get my trees going : )

      I’m intrigued to hear this, Sheila. For me, each time I return to this piece I feel as though I’m standing on a ridge of some sort, looking ‘down-a-floor’ at a scene below me wondering if the trail I’m on will take me there.
